{"id":65,"date":"2009-06-30T17:56:34","date_gmt":"2009-06-30T21:56:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/clients.pronique.com\/jewelrydoctor\/website\/?page_id=65"},"modified":"2014-03-29T11:28:01","modified_gmt":"2014-03-29T17:28:01","slug":"concho-pearls","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jewelrydoctor.org\/?page_id=65","title":{"rendered":"Learn About Concho Pearls"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Pearls of Wisdom about the Concho Pearl<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-392 alignleft\" title=\"pink-concho-pearl\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/pink-concho-pearl.png\" width=\"100\" height=\"96\" \/>Pearls are very unique compared to other gemstones.\u00a0\u00a0It is the only gem that is grown inside a living creature and the oldest known to man.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;<strong>CONCHO PEARL<\/strong>&#8221; can only be found in the freshwater rivers and lakes surrounding San Angelo, Texas.\u00a0\u00a0It is produced by a distinctive muscle<em>(clam)<\/em> known as the <strong>TAMPICO PEARLY Mollusk<\/strong>. \u00a0Concho Pearls can range in color from purple, lavender and pinks to even orange.<\/p>\n<h3>History<\/h3>\n<p>The story began in 1650 when explorers <strong>Hernan Martin<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>\u00a0Diego Castillo<\/strong> arrived in West Texas near what is now the city of San Angelo. \u00a0Finding a river filled with shells, the Spaniards appropriately named the river &#8220;El Rio Concho&#8221; (Shell River).\u00a0\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-394 alignright\" title=\"concho-pearl-shell\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/concho-pearl-shell.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jewelrydoctor.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/concho-pearl-shell.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.jewelrydoctor.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/concho-pearl-shell-300x219.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>The Spanish were so enamored by the pearls found in the Concho River that in 1654 another Spaniard, <strong>Diego De Guadalajara<\/strong>, was sent to the area to enlist the local Indians to harvest more pearls.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>It is also believed that the Spanish Crown Jewels may contain actual Concho Pearls.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So what makes Concho Pearls so rare?
